Description

In this conceptual art unit, pupils will make art in a medium of their choice on a topical contemporary theme. They will investigate how and why Pop Artists from the 1960s to the present day created art.

In previous units pupils drew on contemporary cultural references and developed and were introduced to graphic design contexts. In this unit they explore concepts of culture generating and culture making, applying knowledge from the previous unit. They will develop many of the independent art skills of researching, thinking and idea development needed in key stage 3. Teachers will act as facilitators rather than instructors to enable pupils to realise their own, independent ideas, rather than prescribing or dictating outcomes.

  1. The history of Pop Art
  2. Pop Art: in depth artist study
  3. Sketchbook idea development: thinking through sketching
  4. Pop art: finding sources and researching an idea
  5. Develop a Pop Art piece
  6. Pop Art: realise a final outcome
