Description

In this unit, pupils will learn the art of portraiture in greater depth. They will learn how artists create expressions, mood and feeling in their portraits using facial features, colour, lighting and props.

This unit builds on pupils previous observational and imaginative investigations of urban and natural environments. It provides opportunities to conceptualise, imagine and invent, and introduces them to design thinking.

  1. Investigating urban design
  2. Researching the urban environment
  3. Introduction to design thinking
  4. Design a space to play
  5. Design a space for urban wildlife
  6. Design a sustainable transport system

  • Pupils should have basic control of drawing tools (pencil, pen, ruler, colouring media).
  • Pupils should have basic skills in looking closely at features in the environment and recording them through drawing or notes.
  • Pupils should understand that design is problem-solving: making choices for a purpose or audience.
