Imagined spaces and shared stories

4 lessons

Description

Made in collaboration with October Gallery, the unit looks at how materials can be transformed into imagined and shared stories. Pupils create new worlds and think about how art can shape and celebrate real ones. They investigate how public art holds stories of pride, memory, and transformation.

This unit supports children to see themselves as both inventors and changemakers. It builds imaginative fluency while rooting creative expression in collaborative practice and cultural awareness. Each lesson encourages children to reimagine their environments: What could a scrap become? What might our shared tower say to the world? The sequence nurtures empathy, creative problem-solving, and sculptural fluency. Aligned with the national curriculum, it builds foundational skills while fostering reflection, invention, and community pride.

  1. Charcoal worlds: draw, smudge, imagine
  2. Balance and print: telling stories with everyday things
  3. Art installation: sculpture you can walk through
  4. Clay landscapes: hand building towers together

  • Pupils have experimented with mark-making and drawing
