Paradise island: drawing and sculpture

Description

This unit develops pupils’ ability to draw expressively and imaginatively in a range of media. They will investigate how and why artists create their art, before designing and sculpting an imaginary paradise island either individually or collaboratively.

This unit builds on skills being developed in other areas of the curriculum such as direction, distance, position and shapes in maths, and using maps, direction, aerial and plan perspectives in geography.

  1. Imaginative memory drawing
  2. Respond to artists' visions of paradise
  3. Invent a collaborative paradise island
  4. Construct a paradise island base
  5. Make a papier-maché paradise island
  6. Decorate a papier-mâché paradise island

  • Appropriate ability to realise imaginative intentions through drawing
  • Prior experience of taking part in group discussions
  • Appropriate ability to contribute to group working
  • Prior experience of manipulating sculptural materials to intentions
