Why this why now
Pupils will already know the correct technique and relevant rules for badminton from key stage 3 PE. This unit builds upon this by providing the opportunity to evaluate technique and practise some observation and analysis skills. Positioned during the spring term of year 10, it will encourage engagement in extracurricular opportunities, including local clubs and competitions, which will allow further improvement of performance. This unit will help to prepare students for the practical GCSE moderation in Year 11.
Prior knowledge requirements
- Pupils know the difference between a forehand and a backhand.
- Pupils understand the different line markings for singles and doubles.
- Pupils are able to use a clear as a defensive shot by hitting the shuttle up and a smash as an attacking shot hitting the shuttle down.
- Pupils show an ability to focus and accurately replicate the basic technique for underarm and overarm shots on both sides.
