Key learning points
- The SSC sound [ll] is pronounced as in 'llamar' and [l] as in 'libro'
- The 1st person singular of -ar verbs ends in -o, the 3rd person singular in -a, and the 1st person plural in -amos
- Adverbs of location are followed by 'del' if the noun is masculine or by 'de la' if the noun is feminine.
Keywords
-ar verbs - a verb whose infinitive form ends in -ar
Subject - person, people or thing(s) doing the verb
Common misconception
Spanish verbs follow the same pattern as English verbs. The 'I', 'you', 'we' and 'they' forms are all the same and the only change happens in the 'she, he, it' form.
In Spanish, each subject has its own special ending. For -ar verbs, this is '-o' for 'I', '-as' for 'you', '-a' for 'she, he, it', '-amos' for 'we' and '-an' for 'they'.
