Key learning points
- The SSC [b] as in 'celebrar' and [v] as in 'ver' sound the same in Spanish.
- Pronouns e.g. me, you, him, her replace nouns to avoid repetition.
- The direct object directly receives the action of the verb.
- The indirect object is indirectly affected by the action of the verb. In Spanish, IOPs go before a conjugated verb.
- For '(to/for) me' we say 'me', for '(to/for) you' we say 'te' and for '(to/for) her, him, it' we say 'le'.
Keywords
Indirect object pronoun - replaces the person, people or thing(s) that the verb action is done to, when the action is to me, for you, to them
Common misconception
The indirect object pronoun replaces the thing being given, not the person receiving it.
The indirect object pronoun replaces the person who is receiving the action, not the thing being given. 'Le doy un regalo.' - 'I give a present to him, her.'
Teachers have some flexibility with the final task - it could be used as a speaking activity or a writing one.
