- Masculine nouns ending in -or gain an -a when referring to a woman or girl.
- Some nouns relating to jobs have specific feminine forms e.g. el jefe > la jefa.
- Adjectives of nationality can be used as nouns to refer to people from a particular country.
- Cultural icons are people or artefacts identified by members of a culture as representative of that culture.

Keywords
Noun - word for a person, place or thing
Adjective - word that gives information about a noun
Nominalisation - the process of making a noun from a verb or adjective
Common misconception
'inglés' can only be an adjective.
'inglés' can be an adjective, as in 'la comida inglesa' (English food), or a noun, as in 'el inglés' (the English person (m)). The process of making a noun in this way from an adjective or verb is called nominalisation.
Starter and Exit Qs 2 are aimed at Higher Tier students. Task B1b also tests a significant number of Higher Tier words. Task C2 could be adapted into a speaking task if you think it would benefit your students to say their ideas aloud.
