Common misconception
Artists only use paintbrushes to apply paint.
Artists can use a paintbrush to apply paint, but they can also use other tools, such as leaves, sticks and pinecones.
Teacher tip
Offer children a range of autumnal objects to explore as painting tools. Acorns, conkers, pine cones, dry leaves, pumpkin seeds, apple halves and sticks could be provided.
