Designing and creating a quiz program

      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can create a quiz program using my own design.

      Key learning points

      1. Designing a program involves deciding what objects and commands need to be used.
      2. Commands can be combined in a sequence to create animations.
      3. Algorithms can be followed to help create a program.

      Keywords

      • Design - a plan for what you want your program to do

      • Algorithm - a precise set of ordered steps which can be followed by a human or a computer to do a task

      Common misconception

The design process is not important; you should start coding without one.

Without a clear design, the program might not match the intended purpose. Whilst it might seem like time well spent at the start it will save time in the long run.

      Teacher tip

If time permits, you could demonstrate the sound recording and add text features to make the quizzes even more exciting.

      Equipment

Pupils will need access to a device with block-based programming software. Examples in this lesson use ScratchJr https://oak.link/scratch-jr
