      Make an accurate box frame

      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can make an accurate box frame.

      Key learning points

      1. Sawing accurately will allow measurements to be accurate.
      2. Joining with a selection of techniques will strengthen the box frame.
      3. Card side panels can add strength to a box frame.

      Keywords

      • Measure - determine the size of an object using a tool

      • Join - link or connect two or more things together

      • Strengthen - to make stronger

      Common misconception

A common mistake is inaccurate measuring which means the box frame will not be square.

It is important to measure accurately to make sure the box frame is square.

      Teacher tip

If pupils require further instruction on safe sawing techniques, please refer to lesson 5 in this unit. All pupils should measure their own box frames before cutting rectangular panels as there will be differences in the frame dimensions from earlier accuracy in measuring and cutting.
