Planning to write the build-up of the animated story 'Otherwise'

      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can plan the build-up of ‘Otherwise’.

      Key learning points

      1. Planning is an important part of preparing to write.
      2. The purpose of the build-up of a story is to develop the plot and characters and introduce a problem.
      3. Our plan will contain ambitious vocabulary.
      4. Our plan will contain nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs.

      Keywords

      • Ambitious vocabulary - the use of precise and descriptive words in writing

      • Plan - a framework that writers create before they write

      Common misconception

Pupils may write in full sentences in their plan.

Model writing in note form and support children to do this themselves. Teach them that when we write we use our notes and turn them into full sentences.

      Teacher tip

The build-up is condensed to make it simpler for pupils to write. The first scene when the chameleons are hiding from the eagle has been cut out to help.
