Vocabulary and transcripts for this lessons

Key learning points

  1. Regularly revisiting SSCs supports accurate spelling and pronunciation, building confidence.
  2. To form the perfect tense with -er verbs, use the present tense of ‘avoir’ and a past participle ending in 'é'.
  3. ‘Which’ agrees with the gender and number of the noun it describes; 'quel', 'quelle', 'quels' and 'quelles'.
  4. The preposition 'à' follows 'jouer' with sports, 'de' follows 'jouer' with musical instruments and 'faire' with sports.
  5. To make job nouns feminine, add -e, change the spelling from -eur to -rice/euse, or just change the article..

Keywords

  • Sound-symbol correspondence - relationship between letters and their sounds, referred to as SSC

  • Perfect tense - a verb tense that describes completed actions in the past e.g. 'I said', 'she played'

Common misconception

Only change your main verb into a past verb in French like we can do in English to form the past tense, e.g. I do → I did.

In French you need two verbs in the perfect tense for it to make sense; the correct part of 'avoir' and the past participle.

Teacher tip

This lesson revises a number of structures from previous units. You may want to conduct some pupil voice or use formative assessments to identify the structures students are less confident with and spend longer on these.
