Vocabulary and transcripts for this lessons
Key learning points
- The 1-verb future is the equivalent of 'will' + verb. It is formulated with one word.
- Form the 1-verb future of -er verbs for je, tu, il/elle/on by adding the endings -ai, -as, -a to the infinitive.
- The verb vouloir can be used in the conditional to express a wish. It can be followed by a noun or an infinitive.
- The 1st, 2nd, 3rd person forms of vouloir in the conditional all sound the same: je voudrais, tu voudrais, il voudrait.
Keywords
1-verb future - a form of future that describes what will happen
Conditional - a form of verb that describes what would happen
Common misconception
There are distinct words required in French to translate 'will' and 'would'.
The 1-verb future tense describes 'will + verb'. The conditional describes 'would + verb'. Students should be aware that both verb forms are 'simple' forms as all the meaning is contained within a single word.
Teacher tip
The feedback for listening task B2 shows the transcript of each track on the slide-deck. If time permits, teachers might want to elicit from students the meaning of the entire passage as further vocabulary reinforcement.
Equipment
Mini whiteboards and pens are useful, if available.
