      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can understand how maths is used in event management.

      Key learning points

      1. A strong understanding of finance is necessary
      2. Calculating expenditure and income should be done as accurately as possible
      3. Cost-cutting measures need to balance savings with safety/comfort

      Keywords

      • Percentage - A percentage is a proportion of a whole.

      Common misconception

Pupils may think the cost per hour can be reduced if less than an hour is required (venue hire).

This may be possible but should not be assumed when costing for an event as otherwise this could lead to a loss rather than a profit. If unknown, assume not.

      Teacher tip

For Task B, pupils could work in groups and create a presentation to share with the class. They could discuss the various options they explored and explain why they made the decisions that they did. Pupils listening could then ask any questions they have.
