Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. A protractor is used to draw angles.
  2. A protractor is used to measure the size of angles.
  3. A protractor measures angles in degrees.

Keywords

  • Angle - An angle is a measure of turn. It is often displayed as the rotation between two line segments.

  • Reflex angle - An angle that is greater than a straight line (i.e. greater than 180°) is a reflex angle.

Common misconception

Pupils read from the incorrect values on the protractor.

Encourage pupils to consider the type of angle they are measuring. If it is an acute angle, will it really measure 122°?

Pupils can assess each other's work during Task A. By having pupils work in pairs/small groups, they can all measure an angle and then compare their answers to check accuracy.
