Why this why now
Pupils will already know the key knowledge essential for dance. Pupils will further develop their motor competence to complement their physical education experience in other aspects of PE, whilst introducing opportunities to be expressive and respond to creative stimuli such as music. Skills learnt within this unit will be developed, extended and build upon the foundational movement skills and creative play introduced through the EYFS curriculum.
Prior knowledge requirements
- Pupils can move into and maintain a safe working space.
- Pupils can confidently perform and experiment with moving in a range of ways.
- Pupils can apply simple spatial, dynamic and relational devices.

The unit of work will challenge pupils to respond to the changing stimuli using a range of different and controlled actions, showing character, expression, control and accuracy. Pupils will learn how to co-ordinate their bodies to create short sequences.
