Passing, moving and scoring
Lesson details
Learning outcome
I can pass and move with the ball into an attacking position and shoot with the correct technique.
Key learning points
- Move: to shoot, feet should be shoulder width apart, knees and elbows bent and follow through by extending the arms.
- Move: to create a scoring chance, we have to pass accurately to our teammates and move into space up the court.
- Think: knowing how to pass and move together as a team towards the post increases our chances of scoring.
- Feel: continuing to work on improving our shooting technique demonstrates our determination and resilience.
- Connect: it is important to be respectful of our teammates even when they make mistakes.
Keywords
Shoot - attempting to score a goal by throwing the ball through the opponent's hoop or ring.
Court - rectangular playing area where the netball game takes place
Teammates - any player that is on the same team as you during a game.
Common misconception
Pupils will often rush their shots and look to try and score as soon as they get the ball, without considering their location in relation to the post or target.
Pupils must remember that they have approximately 4 seconds to prepare and then shoot. Remind pupils that using the correct shooting technique will increase their chances of success.
Teacher tip
If you don't have access to lots of netball posts, use basketball nets, squares on a wall or anything else that can be a similar height will be beneficial to ensure pupils can practise the correct shooting technique. Try to rotate pupiles to ensure the all experience shooting at a netball post.
