      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can work with my team to maintain possession and score points by making effective decisions.

      Key learning points

      1. Move: passing accurately to maintain possession and score requires moving into space quickly, creating passing options.
      2. Move: passing accurately to maintain possession and score requires aiming at our team mate's target.
      3. Think: deciding on the best passing option enables our team to keep possession and score.
      4. Feel: enjoying working hard shows self motivation, which is essential to supporting our team's success.
      5. Connect: playing by the rules and encouraging others shows respect towards both our own team as well as the opposition.

      Keywords

      • Score - the points that determine who is winning in a game

      • Possession - the team in control of the ball

      • Maintain - to take care of something so it keeps working well

      Common misconception

Pupils will try and make a pass to score from too far away. Pupils run into the endzone boxes to receive a pass too early and are just standing still in the box.

Encourage pupils to be closer to the scoring zones before trying to make a pass to score. Explain that if we just stand in the box, we aren't helping our team with a passing option.

      Teacher tip

Select your preferred focus (hands, feet, sticks). To extend the challenge further and/or if you have a small space, create mini tournament style set ups, whereby two teams play and one team officiates, then they rotate.

      Equipment

1 ball per group of 6 (ball type depends on the focus), 30+ cones, bibs
