Lesson details
Key learning points
- Everyone has a worldview. Some people may reflect on their worldviews more than others.
- People with different worldviews may agree or disagree about different issues.
- Examining scenarios can help us make wise judgements about how to disagree well with others.
- It is possible to disagree on an issue whilst respecting others peoples worldviews.
Keywords
Debate - a respectful discussion where people share different reasons for their views, listen carefully to others, and use those ideas to consider a question more deeply
Disagreement - differences in opinion or belief between people
Think (worldviews context) - how your worldview shapes the way you judge actions, make decisions and understand other people’s choices
Common misconception
Students may think everyone who disagrees with them has a “wrong” worldview.
Disagreement does not mean a worldview is wrong. People can hold different beliefs for valid ethical, religious, or humanist reasons, and respecting this difference helps dialogue.
