      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can describe how I should feel online and explain how to stay safe online.

      Key learning points

      1. We should feel safe if we are online.
      2. Even if we are having fun, we could still be in danger.
      3. Bad things can happen online.
      4. If we are worried online, we should tell an adult we trust.

      Keywords

      • Safe - something that won't hurt us

      • Worried - thinking about something bad or upsetting

      • Trusted adult - someone we know offline who makes us feel safe and can help us

      Common misconception

Children have to understand what is happening to know when to get help.

At this age, online safety is largely a matter of following our "gut feeling", using our emotions and intuition to keep us safe. This is in addition to basic rules about avoiding strangers and seeking support from trusted adults.

      Teacher tip

Suggest how pupils can report a concern they have in the future. For example, by suggesting trusted adults they can talk to at school.
