      Key learning points

      1. Use the affirmative imperative to tell somebody to do something or to give instructions.
      2. When talking to somebody familiar to you ('tú') with the affirmative imperative of an -ar verb, use the ending -a.
      3. When talking to somebody familiar to you with the affirmative imperative of an -er or -ir verb, use the ending -e.
      4. The verbs 'hacer', 'decir', 'poner' and 'salir' are irregular in the imperative, becoming 'haz', 'di', 'pon' and 'sal'.

      Common misconception

      To tell somebody who is familiar to you to do something, use the 2nd person singular form of the verb.

      To tell somebody who is familiar to you to do something, use the affirmative imperative. For -ar verbs this ends in -a, and for -er/-ir verbs this ends in -e.

      Teacher tip

      Slides 15-16 and Task A1 questions 7-9 contain Higher Tier vocabulary. If extra scaffolding is needed for Task B1, provide students with the infinitive verbs.
