Key learning points
- Revisiting key phonics, vocabulary and grammar helps to embed knowledge.
- Most adjectives come after the noun in French: 'un livre intéressant'.
- Some adjectives go before the noun. These adjectives refer to beauty, age, good/bad and size (BAGS): 'un vieux vélo'.
- When translating, read the sentences carefully to identify key vocabulary and grammatical structures before translating.
Keywords
Pre-nominal adjective - a BAGS adjective (beauty, age, good/bad or size) that goes before the noun: 'un vieux vélo'
Post-nominal adjective - an adjective that goes after the noun: 'un livre intéressant'
Common misconception
When translating from French to English or vice versa, you simply translate word-for-word.
Word order is often different in French and English. In many cases, we can't translate word-for-word and you may need to paraphrase.
You may wish to research some of the Paris monuments in more detail with your class.
