      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can use attributes to compare objects.

      Key learning points

      1. Objects can be grouped by attribute.
      2. Attributes can be recorded by tally marks.
      3. Pictograms can help you answer questions about attributes.

      Keywords

      • Attribute - a thing or quality about an object, like its colour or size

      • Compare - looking at two or more things to see what is the same or different

      Common misconception

A pictogram could be used to collect different attributes of objects at once.

Each set of data is based on one type of attribute to allow direct comparison e.g. colour, shape or size.

      Teacher tip

There will be a classroom shape hunt during the lesson. You will need to prepare for this by either preparing printed cut-out shapes, or physical shape objects, and placing them within the space.

      Equipment

The classroom envrionment will need to be prepared for the shape hunt. This could be using physical objects, or cut out paper shapes.
