This unit progresses pupils understanding of how the internet works through the context of programming. Pupils will gain an understanding of how websites are displayed within a browser using HTML and CSS, progressing on to using JavaScript to make these pages interactive. This unit is a culmination of pupils journey in learning programming by guiding them through a project that allows them to develop designing, writing, testing and refinement skills when developing a high-level text-based program.
Prior knowledge requirements
- Pupils recognise that HTML is a language used to define the layout of pages.
- Pupils understand that HTML can be formatted to improve the appearance of the output.
- Pupils are familiar with the concept of hyperlinks and applying them to link HTML documents.
- Pupils have experience of creating coded solutions to problems using a text-based language.

HTML programming project
In this unit pupils will explore how websites are displayed within a browser using HTML and CSS. They will examine how websites are requested and delivered to our computer via the internet and the WWW. They will create the structure of a website using HTML and change the styling using CSS.
