Writing the title, introduction and ingredients list for monster pizza instructions.

      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can write the title, introduction and ingredients list of instructions for making a monster pizza.

      Key learning points

      1. Instructions use a title to tell the reader what they are about.
      2. Instructions can use an introduction to capture the reader’s interest.
      3. Recipes can contain an ingredients list to tell the reader what they will need.

      Keywords

      • Title - a name or heading given to a piece of writing

      • Introduction - a short section at the start of a piece of writing designed to tell the reader about the main text

      • Ingredients list - a list of things that are combined to make something, often food

      Common misconception

Pupils may think that a recipe would not require an introduction.

Show pupils some examples of recipes that include introductions and let them analyse them. Teach pupils that an introduction can be effective in making the reader want to follow the instructions.

      Teacher tip

You may want pupils to write their ingredients lists on mini whiteboards for Task A, Q2. This will help them when they come to write.
