      Presenting a persuasive advert

      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can present a persuasive advert.

      Key learning points

      1. Oral presentation is an important part of selling a product and persuading an audience.
      2. Projection, pace and diction are important for ensuring the audience can hear and understand you.
      3. Eye contact, body languge and intonation are important for connecting to the audience and engaging them.
      4. Reading over our writing and rehearsing supports successful delivery of a presentation.

      Keywords

      • Oral presentation - a speech or talk in which a new product, idea, or piece of work is shown and explained to an audience

      • Projection - using our voice to speak powerfully and clearly

      • Diction - pronouncing words clearly

      • Body language - how we use our posture and gestures to communicate meaning and feelings

      • Intonation - variation in pitch through the rise and fall of a person's voice

      Common misconception

Children may think that there is one right way to deliver a presentation of a persuasive advert.

Discuss how the target audience impacts the delivery. E.g. difference in delivering to investors (Dragon's Den style) or potential consumers

      Teacher tip

Allow children to practise delivering their presentation in pairs first to build confidence before offering opportunities to present to the whole class. You could set the presentations up like 'Dragon's Den', with some children being investors.
