This unit builds directly on Year 10 performance work by extending pupils’ technical control and musical interpretation. At this stage of the GCSE course, pupils must refine solo performance skills for assessment, focusing on accuracy, fluency and stylistic awareness. The unit develops structured practice strategies and evaluative listening skills to support consistent improvement and confident final performances.
Prior knowledge requirements
- Pupils can perform simple solo pieces on their chosen instrument.
- Pupils understand basic musical elements including rhythm, pitch, tempo and dynamics.
- Pupils can follow notation or lead sheets appropriate to their instrument.
- Pupils have experience performing individually in controlled settings.
- Pupils can identify areas for improvement in their own performance.
- Pupils understand basic practice strategies to improve performance.
