Accuracy: can you throw accurately within increasingly difficult challenges?

      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can vary the power I apply to my throws in order to accurately strike targets at varying distances.

      Key learning points

      1. Move: successfully throwing towards targets that are at different distances requires varying levels of power.
      2. Think: apply more or less power to a throw, based on the distance of the target, requires concentration.
      3. Feel: successfully throwing towards targets that are further away requires self-belief to keep trying.
      4. Connect: fairness enables us to keep the score and play by the rules.

      Keywords

      • Accuracy - how close you get to the target when you throw or aim

      • Throw - using your hands to send a ball through the air to a specific target or area

      • Concentration - the ability to focus your attention on a task, activity or goal while ignoring distractions

      Common misconception

It is always useful to take a big backswing when throwing an object.

When throwing a short distance, it is useful to reduce your backswing so you are more accurate and don't apply too much power.

      Equipment

An object to throw - which could be a ball or rolled up socks, 6 targets - which could be soft toys, shoes or books
