Game application through competitions
Lesson details
Learning outcome
I can work effectively as part of a team to apply a range of attacking and defensive tactics, as well as special powers, in order to be successful in a competition.
Key learning points
- Move: using a range of attacking and defensive skills accurately and consistently throughout the game leads to success.
- Think: selecting and applying different tactics and powers to utilise in the games requires effective decision making.
- Think: implementing our tactics swiftly when switching between attacking and defending enables success in games.
- Feel: striving to succeed, even if we aren't winning, requires self-motivation and demonstrates leadership.
- Connect: effectively implementing the rules of the game demonstrates advanced respect and fairness.
Keywords
Range - different choices or options you have
Team - a group of people who work together to achieve a common goal
Competition - a challenge where everyone tries to win or do their best
Common misconception
Pupils don't discuss the benefits or potential problems of each tactic or power before making a selection that is right for their team at the time. One pupil takes over and rushes the decision making.
Explain that, for a tactic or power to have maximum impact and give their team a big advantage, they must discuss each option as a team.
Teacher tip
Celebrate teams who thoroughly analyse the benefits and issues of each tactic and power before making a selection. Throughout the tournament, build in a scoring system for fair play and pupils who show self-motivation. Pupils officiating can be responsible for awarding these points too.
