      Key learning points

      1. The verb 'hace' + noun describes a range of weather conditions, e.g. 'hace sol'.
      2. The verb 'hay' means 'there is' or 'there are'.
      3. To say you have been doing something for a period of time, you can use 'present tense verb + desde hace + time period'.
      4. To say you have been doing something for a period of time, you can use 'llevo + time period + present participle'.
      5. The BORDER acronym is a useful tool to respond fully and accurately to bullet point writing prompts.

      Keywords

      • Hace - it is (weather), e.g. 'hace sol' (it is sunny)

      • Hay - there is, there are

      • Desde hace - for (a period of time)

      • BORDER - extended writing acronym

      Common misconception

The Spanish translation of 'it is sunny' is 'es sol'.

When describing weather conditions, the verb 'hace' translates as 'it is'. The Spanish translation of 'it is sunny' is 'hace sol'.
