Health and wellbeing: cardio tennis

Description

This unit will develop pupils’ understanding of a variety of ways to have fun whilst improving personal health and fitness. Their movement skills and cardiovascular endurance will improve whilst engaging in tennis based exercises.

Pupils will already have developed their understanding of what it means to commit to a personalised training plan and the different components of fitness that are important to them. They will have considered how exercise and nutrition complement each other to support a healthy and active lifestyle. Later in health and wellbeing pupils will explore a variety of additional approaches to holistic wellbeing to include couch to 5k; yoga, pilates and mindfulness; and exercises associated with martial arts and self-defence.

  1. Heart rate response to shuttles, shadow runs and sideline challenges
  2. Team challenges with high tempo
  3. Sprints, smashes and side steps
  4. Serves, returns, sprinting and sweating
  5. Working in pairs to workout and win
  6. Challenging the body and brain to the max

  • Pupils know that tennis requires agility, balance, coordination, speed, power, reaction time and endurance.
  • Pupils understand that regular training will result in improvements in fitness.
  • Pupils are able to swing a racket with control and awareness of where others are on the court.
  • Pupils show a positive attitude towards activities that promote fitness, friendships and fundamental movement skills.
