Why this why now

Pupils will already have explored principles of keeping possession of a ball either in hand or at feet in ‘donor’ sports and scenarios (core tasks). Pupils will now apply that learning to pass accurately and move off the ball to create space and options to outwit others in netball. They will improve their quality of movement to avoid breaking the footwork rule and also refine skills to accurately replicate the shooting technique via reciprocal learning. Later in invasion games they will experience basketball.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils know that all invasion games have similar features of attacking and defending play to either score or deny scoring opportunities.
  • Pupils understand that netball is an invasion game.
  • Pupils are able to throw and catch a ball in a variety of ways.
  • Pupils show a willingness to try new activities and focus on improving their skills.
