Why this why now

Pupils will already have developed a variety of skills, tactics and strategies from various games with the ball in hand, at feet and in rugby and other invasion game situations (such as Kabaddi), but this unit requires pupils to learn how to problem solve in a different version of the game. Later in invasion games they will apply more advanced tactics and strategies to other new games.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils know the basic rules of touch rugby including how to score a try.
  • Pupils understand how to prevent an injury in sport through utilising appropriate warm ups.
  • Pupils are able to pass accurately in a backwards direction.
  • Pupils show ways to create space.
