Why this why now

Pupils will already have developed ways to adapt skills, tactics and strategies from various forms of handball, netball and basketball but this unit requires pupils to learn and problem solve in a different game. This unit provides an opportunity to also learn about forces and laws of motion in action in sport. Later in invasion games they will apply more advanced tactics and strategies.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils know the difference between attack and defence.
  • Pupils understand the importance of moving off the ball to provide passing options for their teammates.
  • Pupils are able to catch with consistency and minimal dropped balls by using both hands and bringing the ball in to their body.
  • Pupils show the confidence to learn new rules and tactics required by a different game.
