Pupils will already have explored techniques for batting and overarm bowling in cricket whilst also improving their effectiveness fielding to deny runs. Statistical analysis will help with decision making as they transition to small-sided rather than pairs games. Later in striking and fielding games pupils will be challenged to adapt and transfer skills to softball whilst learning a new set of rules, techniques and tactics. Leadership skills will continue to be developed in a number of upcoming units.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils know that cricket requires a balance of taking risks to score runs while avoiding losing wickets easily.
  • Pupils understand that thoughtful field placements can have a big impact on limiting runs scored.
  • Pupils are able to perform an overarm bowling technique.
