Description

In this unit pupils look at the huge question of forgiveness and reconciliation. This study focusses on the Christian tradition and analyses case studies of Coventry and South Africa to illuminate how Christian teaching inspired individuals to begin the difficult task of reconciliation.

The question of forgiveness is challenging and this unit is situated here when pupils have developed sufficient maturity and subject knowledge to examine complex case studies. Examining the story of Coventry cathedral and South Africa allow them to see that reconciliation occurs across the world, and also that this work is difficult and long term. Starting with the theological teaching they see how Quakers have interpreted and led this work before examining Coventry and Desmond Tutu. It makes strong links with the previous unit on powerand Year 4 unit on outcasts.
