Description

In this unit, pupils will examine how different Christian and humanist families welcome a new baby. They will make connections between the idea of welcome and dedication - comparing religious and non-religious ceremonies to see similarities and differences.

This will be the first unit in our RE curriculum. Pupils will build on ideas of ceremonies from EYFS through a specific focus on rituals to welcome a baby. They will see that diversity is part of religion through exploring different Christian rituals, and have seeds sown that not everyone is religious through a humanist ceremony.

  1. Welcoming new life
  2. Christian baptism of a baby
  3. Christians dedicate a child to God
  4. Humanists celebrate new life
  5. Welcoming a foster child into the family
  6. Welcoming a new family member with or without God
