Description

This unit allows a deep study of Islam through the concept of harmony. Pupils will know that, for Muslims, Allah has created a world designed to be in harmony. Prayer and fasting are key pillars that enable a Muslim to achieve that harmony with God.

Pupils explore Islam in Key Stage 1. This unit builds on those foundations but focusses on fasting and prayer in depth. The aim is that pupils can make links between the idea of harmony as a theological concept and the practices that many Muslims will perform. They will make strong links that fasting is about creating habits and not simply for the duration of Ramadan. In Year 4 they will deepen this through exploring the world of the Prophet Muhammad.

  1. Allah and harmony
  2. The Shahadah: harmony through faith
  3. Salat: finding harmony through daily prayer
  4. Mosque: finding harmony through praying together
  5. Sawm: finding harmony through fasting
  6. Ramadan and harmony
