Description

In this unit pupils will investigate ideas of the divine in Hindu dharma. The story of Svetakeatu will help them understand the idea of Brahman in all things. They will examine deities and mandirs to see Hindu dharma is pluralist and the divine can be perceived in many ways.

In Year 2 pupils studies stories that drew out concepts such as the divine and compassion. In Year 3 and 4 they deepened their understanding of dharma. This unit brings this together to look at the concept of dharma. Alongside this pupils will understand more about why there is a Hindu community in the UK and the inherent diversity within this worldview. This will help them when they come to the census unit at the end of Year 6.

  3. Puja: different Hindu expressions
  4. Murtis and how they are used in puja
  5. Dharma: living the Hindu life
  6. Karma, samsara and moksha

  • Know stories from Hindu traditions.
  • Understand how dharma is personal to each individual.
  • Know some festivals in Hindu Dharma, how they are celebrated and why.
  • Know that personal dharma influences actions.
