Why this why now

In Year 1 pupils learnt about the significance of Jesus for many Christians and the idea of the incarnation. They built on this in Year 3 by interpreting the story of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. In this unit they will build on this by looking at stories about the friends and relationships Jesus built during his lifetime, noting how they focussed on the margins of society. They will investigate how these might be interpreted today.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils will know that most Christians believe that Jesus was God on earth. This is know as incarnation.
  • Pupils will know that Jesus taught his followers using parables.
  • Pupils will know that Jesus was Jewish.
  • Pupils know that different Christians will interpret stories of Jesus in different ways.
