Pupils have gained a deep understanding of the religion of Christianity. However it is important that this understanding is not limited to the time of Jesus or practices today. Situating the unit here allows pupils to gain a historical perspective to prepare them for Key Stage 3. They will be introduced to key differences and points of departure between Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant Christians whilst also noting that the Church has spreads throughout the world and looks different in different places.
Prior knowledge requirements
- Pupils will know that Christians are people with a religious worldview.
- Pupils will know that most Christians follow the teachings of Jesus found in the New Testament.
- Pupils will know that a church is a building to worship in and the name for a group of Christians.
- Pupils will understand that Christianity is made up of different denominations with different beliefs and practices.
