Description

In this unit pupils focus on the Sikh community in the UK today. They learn why there is a Sikh community and its contribution historically and in terms of service and charity. They analyse how Amrit and the 5Ks remain important to Sikh identity and how there is a diversity of practices.

In Year 4 pupils studied the significance of Guru Nanak to Sikhs. In this unit they build on this to look at the idea of the khalsa - the Sikh community. Using their understanding of change and continuity from studying Judaism, Christianity and Islam they will analyse data and interviews to understand how the 5Ks and Amrit are viewed today. Connecting to the previous unit on Hind dharma they will see how sewa is common to dharmic traditions.
