Humanists: How can you lead a happy and meaningful life?

6 lessons

Description

In this unit pupils will learn about the main beliefs of humanism. They will understand that humanists focus on reason and empathy to make moral decisions. Case studies will enable them to explore how humanists aim to live their one life as well and as meaningfully as they can.

In Key Stage One pupils learnt that humanism is a non-religious worldview and that humanists may have naming ceremonies, believe the universe has natural origins and tell stories that inspire them to care for the world. This unit pulls this knoweldge together in a depth study of humanism as an example of a non-religious worldview. Pupils will understand how humanists make moral decisions based on reason. These ideas will be built upon in Year 6 unit on ethics.
