Why this why now

In Year 3 pupils investigated the concept of spirituality through music and dance. In this unit they will examine how poetry and the visual arts allow believers and devotees to express their beliefs. Comparing Christian iconography and Islamic calligraphy will enable them to see points of connection and departure. They will be able to interpret visual arts and see how there is diversity in how these have been understood.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils will have studied an earlier unit on spirituality, exploring music and dance.
  • They will have also visited aspects of art and poetry in earlier learning about different faiths.
  • They will probably also have encountered different literary forms in other aspects of their curriculum.
