In Year 2 and 3 pupils began to learn about Hindu worldviews. Now they are introduced to another dharmic worldview: Sikhi. This worldview has a long and deep relationship with the UK and so is essential knoweldge. They will see how Guru Nanak arose within the context of the India of the time and how his message challenged the society around him. This will prepare them for units looking at how the Prophet Muhammad and Jesus challenged their societies.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils will know that the Gurdwara is a place of worship for Sikhs.
  • They will have encountered Sikh worship and music as expressions of belief.
  • They may have an understanding of Sikh care through Sewa.
  • Pupils will have encountered the importance of leaders in other religions such as Jesus and Prophet Muhammad.
