Lesson details
Key learning points
- To explain when events happen in a week we can use yesterday and tomorrow.
Keywords
Yesterday - The day before today.
Tomorrow - The day after today.
Today - The current day.
Common misconception
Pupils may struggle to name which day follows Saturday because it is the last day of the week.
In the lesson, the days of the week are presented in both linear and cyclical form. Having the latter displayed in your classroom, and using it regularly to recite the days, will help them to see that any of the days have a day that comes after them.
When completing the independent activities, the stem sentences can be removed if and when pupils are confident at articulating the sentence structures. Likewise, the days of the week cycle may be used as a scaffold. Keep referring to a visual weekly timetable in the classroom.
