Why this why now
This unit uses and builds on pupils' learning around the features of non-fiction texts, which was explored through the prior unit, 'Curious Creatures Glowing in the Dark'. This unit prepares pupils for the future unit, 'The aye-aye or wild cats: non-chronological report', where they will use information they read to write non-chronological reports on primates or wild cats.
Prior knowledge requirements
- Ability to decode text fluently at an age-appropriate level.
- Know that texts are written for different purposes.
- Know how to retrieve information from a text.
