This unit uses and builds on pupil's understanding of Shakespearean tragedy from 'Othello'. It also develops their understanding of a Shakespearean tragic hero, and enables them to see different conceptions of tragic heroes. This unit gives pupils a firm grounding in the play's key themes, characters and scenes, which sets them up for the deep dive units in year 11. In particular, this unit builds towards the first deep dive, which focuses on the relationship between masculinity and honour and violence.
