      Key learning points

      1. 'Moi', 'toi', 'lui', 'elle', 'nous', 'vous', 'eux', elles mean me, you, him, her, us, you and them as emphatic pronouns.
      2. It is important to plan both the ideas and language needed and to think about structure when writing a longer text.

      Keywords

      • Imperfect tense - tense used to describe how things were or used to be in the past, or to say what was happening

      • Conditional - verb form used to mean what could or would happen under certain conditions

      • Emphatic pronoun - used to emphasise a person, or when the pronoun stands alone, or after certain prepositions

      Common misconception

Sentences such as 'when I was little, I would do the shopping with my mother' can be translated by using both the imperfect tense and the conditional mood.

In French, when writing or translating sentences about what used to happen, all verbs should be in the imperfect tense. 'Used to' and 'would' (meaning habitually) are translated by the imperfect.

      Teacher tip

Photos and locations used in the slide deck can be substituted for places you are more familiar with.

      Equipment

Mini whiteboards and pens would be useful if available. Students will require paper for the extended writing task.
